Personal utility ยท Single-user use
Pi Drive Transfer
Personal Google Drive downloads, on Matt's own storage.
Pi Drive Transfer is Matt Blethen's personal file backup and download utility. It uses the third-party, open-source rclone tool on his own Raspberry Pi to connect directly to the Google Drive API and download selected personal files onto storage he owns.
Matt owns and operates the Google OAuth client named Pi Drive Transfer. The utility is for his own use; it is not offered as a public backup service. This website provides information about the utility and does not connect visitors' Google Drive accounts.
How Google Drive access works
Google authorization is handled through rclone. The requested permission is
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.readonly.
It allows reading and downloading Drive file contents and metadata across the connected account's
Drive, even though Matt chooses which files to download. It does not permit uploading, changing,
or deleting Drive files.
OAuth tokens are stored in the local rclone configuration for ongoing access. Downloaded files stay on Matt's own storage until he deletes them. No Drive files or OAuth credentials are collected by this public website, and no custom application server receives visitors' Drive data.
Drive data is used only for this personal download and backup workflow. It is not sold, used for advertising, or used to train AI models. Google Drive desktop uploads on Matt's separate computer use the official Google Drive app and are outside Pi Drive Transfer.
Control and contact
Access can be removed through Google Account connections. Removing access stops future authorized transfers; existing local copies must be deleted separately. The privacy notice explains access, storage, retention, and deletion in more detail.
