Pi Drive Transfer privacy notice

Last updated:

Scope and owner

This notice applies only to Pi Drive Transfer, Matt Blethen's single-user personal file backup and download utility. Matt owns and operates its Google OAuth client and uses the third-party, open-source rclone tool on his own Raspberry Pi. It is not a publicly available backup service. In-Between Labs' Android apps, including Sigil Synth, are covered by their separate Android apps privacy policy.

Google data accessed and purpose

The utility connects directly to the Google Drive API using https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.readonly. This permission allows it to read and download file contents and metadata, such as file names, folder information, sizes, and modification times, across the connected account's Drive. The permission is broader than the files selected for a particular download.

Matt uses that access to find and download selected personal files to his own storage for backup and local use. This read-only permission does not allow the utility to upload, modify, or delete Drive files. Uploads from Matt's separate computer through the official Google Drive desktop app are a separate workflow and are not performed by Pi Drive Transfer.

Authorization and local storage

Authorization is completed with Google through rclone. OAuth access and refresh tokens are stored in Matt's local rclone configuration to maintain access for ongoing transfers. The public website does not collect Google credentials or OAuth tokens and has no Google Drive sign-in flow.

Downloaded files are stored on Matt's own storage connected to his Raspberry Pi. File contents and metadata used during a transfer are processed by rclone on that device. No custom application server collects visitors' Drive data.

Use and sharing

Google Drive data is used only to carry out this personal download and backup workflow. Transfers take place between Google and Matt's own device. The utility does not sell Drive data, share it with advertising services, use it to serve ads, or use it to train AI models.

rclone is third-party software running locally in this setup; it is not a custom service operated by this website. Google's handling of data within Google Drive is covered by Google's privacy policy.

Retention and deletion

Local copies remain on Matt's own storage until he deletes them. OAuth tokens remain in the local rclone configuration for ongoing access until the configuration is removed or the tokens are replaced. Matt can stop transfers, delete the downloaded files, and remove the saved rclone credentials. There is no public customer account or website-held Drive dataset to delete.

Revoking Google access

The connected account owner can open Google Account connections, select Pi Drive Transfer, review its access to the Google Account, and remove access. This prevents future authorized access to Drive. Revocation does not erase files already downloaded or remove token entries from the local rclone configuration; those must be deleted separately on Matt's device.

Visiting these pages

These informational pages do not request access to visitors' Google Drive accounts and include no custom analytics or advertising scripts. Website hosting may process standard request information, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver the pages. Website requests are separate from the utility's Drive transfers; Drive files and OAuth tokens are not sent to the website by this utility.

Changes and contact

This notice will be updated if the utility's data practices change. The date above identifies the current notice. For privacy questions, contact Matt Blethen / In-Between Labs at inbetweenlabs@gmail.com.
